making self-care A PRIORITY

For the longest time, I was a self-care skeptic. Apart from the occasional trip to the salon, I didn't think I needed it. Self-care seemed like an indulgence for those who could afford to splurge on massages, facials, and afternoon naps.  After my daughters were born, the little time I had for such frivolities whittled down to just enough to shower and brush my teeth. So what's changed? I guess growing older (and hopefully wiser) has me seeking opportunities to relax and recharge. Maybe it's a way to combat the winter doldrums or a coping mechanism for what seems[...]

The “Holidaze” is Over: My 5 Tips To Get You Moving In Style In 2022

Charleston, SC

We all need a little something different to spur us back into action after the holidays. And by action I mean returning to a fitness routine. Yes, the “holidaze” can’t last forever and our bodies aren’t going to miraculously exercise themselves. Maybe in 2032! Whether it’s a friend you’re partnering with to motivate you, a new class or type of workout you’re going to try, or some new gear you received for Christmas that you just can’t wait to wear, we can all relate to needing some motivation to exercise.  Personally, I get bored with the same wo[...]

our new year’s Intentions

"Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year." -Ralph Waldo Emerson Happy New Year, friends! With covid rearing its ugly head, it may not feel like we've turned a page to embrace a bright, clean slate. We've been reminding ourselves that, despite external circumstances, we still have the ability to choose our mindsets. Our thoughts and perceptions determine how well we live our lives and whether or not we make the changes that enhance the quality of our days. They also lead us to choose joy over anxiety and defeat. While we've never lov[...]

Holiday traditions FOR THE littles

Whether you're a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle, there's something special about experiencing the magic of the season through the eyes of little ones. Christmastime can evoke feelings of nostalgia with holiday traditions taking on renewed significance when you're the one responsible for passing them on to the next generation.Even though I'm in my forties, this time of year still reminds me of the matching party dresses that my sister and I would wear to our grandmother's house every Christmas Eve. After the festivities, we'd stay up well past our bedtime liste[...]

Christmastime in charleston

I've got a confession. I'm more than a little behind on Christmas prep and my house is an absolute wreck. For the last week or so, our half-decorated tree has stood in the family room corner looking forlorn, along with half a dozen storage bins filled with wreaths and garland waiting to be fluffed. December has gotten off to a busy start and there's been a number of work and social events, causing me to lose some of the steam I had when we first pulled everything down from the attic. Regardless, I'm determined to have our house decorated by the end of the day! The[...]
