festive poinsettia punch

Charleston, SC

Just in time for the weekend, Lori and I have a beautiful and delicious cocktail to bring you an extra dose of Christmas cheer. A little jazz playing in the background, a cocktail (or mocktail) in hand, and good company is a great way to spread some holiday joy. This punch is simple to make and will create that little wow factor that we relish this time of year.  FESTIVE POINSETTIA PUNCH Makes 8 servings Ingredients: 1/2 cup orange liqueur 1 cup cranberry juice cocktail Top off with sparkling wine (we use Balan Millesimato Brut Prosecco)  Ga[...]

Holiday traditions FOR THE littles

Whether you're a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle, there's something special about experiencing the magic of the season through the eyes of little ones. Christmastime can evoke feelings of nostalgia with holiday traditions taking on renewed significance when you're the one responsible for passing them on to the next generation.Even though I'm in my forties, this time of year still reminds me of the matching party dresses that my sister and I would wear to our grandmother's house every Christmas Eve. After the festivities, we'd stay up well past our bedtime liste[...]

Designer vignettes that inspire

Charleston, SC

As mentioned in a previous post, we were delighted to attend Illumination Charleston and have the opportunity to tour the historic Aiken-Rhett House last weekend. In addition to the gorgeous Christmas florals and greenery that adorned the mansion, the house featured modern furniture arrangements and inspirational vignettes by top Southeast designers. From the gracious piazza designed by Amanda Lindroth to the intimate library fashioned by Jason Reeves, each space had a distinct vibe despite being under the same roof of one very historic property. Let's have a look[...]

Christmastime in charleston

I've got a confession. I'm more than a little behind on Christmas prep and my house is an absolute wreck. For the last week or so, our half-decorated tree has stood in the family room corner looking forlorn, along with half a dozen storage bins filled with wreaths and garland waiting to be fluffed. December has gotten off to a busy start and there's been a number of work and social events, causing me to lose some of the steam I had when we first pulled everything down from the attic. Regardless, I'm determined to have our house decorated by the end of the day! The[...]

Christmas Books to lift the holiday spirit

Charleston, SC

The lead up to Christmas can often become hectic and over-scheduled. We all know the epicenter of the holiday season is family and friends, but the amount of commitments can often lead us to feeling stressed and anxious. Lori and I both occasionally like to retreat and recharge with our nose stuck in a book. We’ve put together a list of book recommendations to spread some Christmas cheer (and give you some much needed escapism). Whether you love a classic, historical fiction or a rom-com, we’ve got a book for you. You might even discover a great gift for a fel[...]

Thanksgiving Reflections

"Thanksgiving is a joyous invitation to shower the world with love and gratitude." -Amy Leigh Mercree As I reflect over past Thanksgivings, many images come to mind. I recall countless meals spent with family and friends, watching the Macy's parade and football games, while sneaking into the kitchen for one more slice of pumpkin pie. Of course, those were times for wearing elastic-waist pants so I could circle back for seconds of all my favorite dishes. When I look back over all those years and think about what I strive to recre[...]

Fall floral arrangements for your thanksgiving celebrations

While you’re running through the grocery store for the third time the week before Thanksgiving (we will be, too!), you might have time to stop briefly at the flower counter and grab a few stems to spice up your home for the occasion. Whether it’s a beautiful centerpiece for your entry or buffet, or some thoughtfully placed votive-sized arrangements, it doesn't take a whole lot of effort to make a big impact. The arrangements we make in the video are fairly easy to compose, but still add elegance to any table or counter-top. Here are a few tips to keep in mind[...]
