festive poinsettia punch

Charleston, SC

Just in time for the weekend, Lori and I have a beautiful and delicious cocktail to bring you an extra dose of Christmas cheer. A little jazz playing in the background, a cocktail (or mocktail) in hand, and good company is a great way to spread some holiday joy. This punch is simple to make and will create that little wow factor that we relish this time of year.  FESTIVE POINSETTIA PUNCH Makes 8 servings Ingredients: 1/2 cup orange liqueur 1 cup cranberry juice cocktail Top off with sparkling wine (we use Balan Millesimato Brut Prosecco)  Ga[...]

Designer vignettes that inspire

Charleston, SC

As mentioned in a previous post, we were delighted to attend Illumination Charleston and have the opportunity to tour the historic Aiken-Rhett House last weekend. In addition to the gorgeous Christmas florals and greenery that adorned the mansion, the house featured modern furniture arrangements and inspirational vignettes by top Southeast designers. From the gracious piazza designed by Amanda Lindroth to the intimate library fashioned by Jason Reeves, each space had a distinct vibe despite being under the same roof of one very historic property. Let's have a look[...]

Christmas Books to lift the holiday spirit

Charleston, SC

The lead up to Christmas can often become hectic and over-scheduled. We all know the epicenter of the holiday season is family and friends, but the amount of commitments can often lead us to feeling stressed and anxious. Lori and I both occasionally like to retreat and recharge with our nose stuck in a book. We’ve put together a list of book recommendations to spread some Christmas cheer (and give you some much needed escapism). Whether you love a classic, historical fiction or a rom-com, we’ve got a book for you. You might even discover a great gift for a fel[...]

MAKING THE HOLIDAYS BRIGHT FOR at risk CHILDREN & YOUTH

"That's where the joy is, in helping others." --Denzel Washington Farrah and I recently had the honor of attending a fundraising gala for Lowcountry Orphan Relief (LOR), an organization here in the Charleston area that benefits some of the most vulnerable children in the state of South Carolina. Through a number of programs and countless volunteers, LOR works to provide basic life necessities to lowcountry youth identified as at-risk or suffering from abandonment, abuse and/or neglect.Prior to last week's gala, I once heard LOR's founder speak and was literal[...]

Thanksgiving Reflections

"Thanksgiving is a joyous invitation to shower the world with love and gratitude." -Amy Leigh Mercree As I reflect over past Thanksgivings, many images come to mind. I recall countless meals spent with family and friends, watching the Macy's parade and football games, while sneaking into the kitchen for one more slice of pumpkin pie. Of course, those were times for wearing elastic-waist pants so I could circle back for seconds of all my favorite dishes. When I look back over all those years and think about what I strive to recre[...]

A Focaccia Recipe that’s worth the carbs

Panicale, Umbria

One Italian staple which is an easy recipe, fun to make on your own or with kids, and oh so delicious is focaccia. Right out of college I exchanged eating cafeteria food and take-out to living in one of the most delicious countries on the planet. If it weren’t for all the amazing food I ate while I lived there, I sometimes wonder if anything else would have sparked my interest in cooking. I think Italian cuisine suited me because there were a lot of accessible recipes for an inexperienced girl who didn’t know much about cooking. Everywhere I went I was interes[...]

SKINCARE ESSENTIALS

Charleston, SC

As I make my way through my 40’s, I've realized there is no product out there that will completely reverse the clock. Sometimes half the battle is finding the time or even remembering to apply my skincare products twice a day.  I've also been frustrated by products that seem to disappear half an hour after I've applied them. Can anyone relate? Although we may have different skin types, there are commonalities that we all need to focus on--moisture and anti-aging. I've learned a few tricks along the way that have helped me enhance my skincare regimen.&nb[...]
