Spring travel ideas

Charleston, SC
As many of you may be gearing up for Spring Break or starting to think about a summer vacation, I thought I would brighten your inbox with some travel ideas. Living in Charleston, the easiest way to enjoy the warmer spring months is to visit our beautiful parks and plantations, walk on the beach or wander the cobblestone streets downtown. Visitors and residents alike can’t seem to get enough of Charleston’s epic charm.

But with so many beautiful places to visit around the world, it’s tempting to check something off the good ‘ol bucket list. We have enjoyed a wide variety of travel destinations over the years, but these are places I highly recommend. Whether you’re going alone, with a friend or as a family, there is something for everyone.

The island of Nevis is absolutely beautiful and surprisingly not too difficult to reach. We loved our accommodations at the Golden Rock Inn to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. The restaurant and gardens are to die for and people come from all the other resorts just to experience a special meal here.

Another favorite was a girls trip to Mexico. Andaz Mayakoba was both elegant and convenient. The relaxing atmosphere was perfect for two moms seeking some R&R.

Harry and I both enjoy the mountains and it has been especially rewarding to watch our girls learn to ski. As we imagined, they will soon be at a higher skill level than we are!! We hope they’ll continue to return to the mountains with us for a few more years. It’s definitely a fun way to vacation as a family. Especially now that they are old enough to dress themselves! We have tried several resorts and while all the resorts we’ve tried have been great, Park City Canyons is our favorite.

If instead you’re craving a warm destination, I ventured to Palm Beach for the first time last year. It’s only an hour flight from Charleston, there is a new direct flight on Breeze that is incredibly economical and there is plenty of fun for everyone. The beaches are clean and the water is clear. There are great resorts and hotels all around Palm Beach and West Palm, but none are as iconic as The Breakers.

If your passport is burning a hole in your pocket and you’re in the mood for a foreign destination, we have always relished our trips to the UK and Italy. They’re both places either Harry or I have lived for an extended period of time, and it’s great fun taking our children and revisiting our old haunts. The Devonshire coast in the UK where Harry was born and his family still resides is a beautifully preserved area and popular among UK and foreign tourists. Exmoor National Park is a fantastic place to visit.

Italy is the one place I keep returning. No matter how many times I go, I always have an amazing time and do something different on each visit. The food, the wine, the scenery, the people, the countryside, the Mediterranean, the mountains, the ambience…Need I say more? After all they call it the “dolce vita” for a very good reason.
