The “Holidaze” is Over: My 5 Tips To Get You Moving In Style In 2022
Charleston, SC
We all need a little something different to spur us back into action after the holidays. And by action I mean returning to a fitness routine. Yes, the “holidaze” can’t last forever and our bodies aren’t going to miraculously exercise themselves. Maybe in 2032! Whether it’s a friend you’re partnering with to motivate you, a new class or type of workout you’re going to try, or some new gear you received for Christmas that you just can’t wait to wear, we can all relate to needing some motivation to exercise.
Personally, I get bored with the same workout routine. So I’ll often try something new. In the last year I’ve enjoyed mat pilates, strength training, yoga and good ‘ol walking. Lori and I even worked out to her old Cindy Crawford videos during Covid! The point was that it got us moving, we had fun, and we were accountable to one another. If you need a distraction to get you through the workout, you can always try popping in your earbuds and listening to a podcast, a book on audible or even a new album.
Whatever your formula is going to be for 2022, I’ve listed My Top 5 Tips to getting you in positive forward motion in 2022 as well as linked some of my favorite workout clothing and gear.
My Top 5 Tips To Get You Moving In Style in 2022
- Write down your goals and track your progress. If you have a high-reaching goal, break it down to weekly goals that are achievable and that will help you stay motivated as you hit those weekly targets. Lori likes to use a notebook, I on the other hand like to use my iPhone calendar. That way it alerts me day to day what I need to be doing to hit my end of week goal. It’s like having a little timer with a 7 day countdown of where I need to be. That’s how I squeezed back into my evening gown in a week for our Lowcountry fundraiser!
- Try something new once a week. Go for a walk in a different neighborhood. Check out one of your streaming services or businesses in your community that offers in-person or streams their classes. Don’t let yourself get bored or before you know it, you’ll be looking for any excuse to skip the exercise.
- Find a workout buddy. It could be your bestie that lives halfway across the country, your mom or sister or husband or even your neighbor. Just find anyone willing. You will end up laughing and catching up and the time will fly by.
- Find a professional trainer or subscribe to a service. There are hundreds of trainers that will help you with your fitness goals. It may be a more expensive option, but I find if you have to be accountable, then you are far more likely to follow through. And remember, one breakthrough that COVID gave us is streaming services. ALO.com has a $20/month membership for so many types of workouts. You don’t even have to think about what exercises to do. It’s all well-rounded and you can choose a class that is at your level.
- Get yourself dressed in your workout clothes first thing in the morning or right when you get home. It depends on when you have the time to squeeze in a workout. This is a psychological game I play with myself. You’ll feel like you got ready, you should at least take the first step and then you’re on your way.
Often, after Christmas is the best time to score a deal on some great brands so if workout gear needs a refresh, checkout the sales on your favorite brands. My daughters both scored a 40% off deal at LuluLemon with their Christmas money and were over the moon. Now what better way to start out 2022!
